Offerings

After School Classes

Role-Playing Games

For students age 8 and above, both our Role-Playing Game (RPG) and Dungeons and Dragons (D&D) curriculums give students an opportunity to dive into narrative game systems that encourage cooperation and creative thinking. Students are immersed in a shared story-telling experience as they work together to overcome obstacles and solve problems. We offer RPG After School classes at multiple levels, D&D After School classes, afternoon D&D sessions for our day camps and summer camps, and ongoing D&D campaigns on weekends year round.

Board Games

Following a set of carefully crafted, age appropriate curriculums for students aged 4-14, our Little Learners, Brain Benders, Mind Masters, and Strategy Specialists classes cycle through a variety of board games focusing on differing game mechanics and styles of play, each highlighting the development of specific brain functions, including cooperative play, reward estimation, and perceptual organization. We run all levels of our board game classes on weekdays throughout the school year, and offer exploration of our game collection during our day camps.

School Pick-Up

If your student is registered for one of our classes, school pickup may be available if they attend a participating school near one of our locations. We offer school pickup from select schools in each neighborhood we serve, subject to a minimum of 3 students from the same school.

For the most up-to-date information about participating schools and pickup options, please visit our School Pickup Information page for your location.

If your school is not currently listed, you are welcome to reach out to kids@hexnyc.com

While we cannot guarantee that pickup will be available, we are happy to see whether there may be an option that works for your student.

DOE Holidays and Summer Camps

Our After School programs follow the DOE calendar, and as such do not run on DOE Holidays. On these days, with the exception of 4th of July, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s, we run our Camp Program instead. Our Camp days run from 9am to 4:30pm (extended stay until 6pm available) with a lunch and recess between the morning and afternoon sessions. Students can enjoy games from our full selection of Board Games, Card Games, and RPGs, focusing on their favorites or discovering new experiences.

For the second half of our camp days, students 3rd grade have the option to dive into Dungeons and Dragons. On each camp day students can create a new character and play through a unique self-contained one-shot story from beginning to end. All experience levels are welcome, from first time beginners to seasoned adventurers.

We offer a variety of classes and programs throughout the school year and summer, with fun filled environments for kids ages 4-16, focusing on games, strategy, socialization, and neurodevelopment. We view games as novel problems to be solved and how we go about solving those problems is key to our didactic approach. This includes counselor-directed questions about inductive, deductive, and abductive reasoning, all framed within an age-appropriate child-centric approach. Our offerings can be separated into 3 distinct categories: Role-Playing Games, Board Games, and Tournament Games.

Our enrichment programs focus on neurodevelopment by having fun while developing and articulating strategies for problem solving, all through the interactive process of socialization! Kids learn how to think ‘moves ahead,’ anticipating an opponent’s reaction, and developing good sportsmanship through cooperative and competitive play.

Tournament Games

These classes are geared toward students who are ready to dive into friendly competition with their peers. These classes all teach the mechanics and explore the worlds of games that are played in tournaments around the world, and give students an opportunity to learn and master these games to be tournament ready. Our Card Strategy Specialists class, focusing on Magic: The Gathering, is offered at our West Side location, Wargaming runs at our Union Square location, and our introductory Chess classes can be run at any of our locations.
